MANUKAderm

MANUKAderm is a wound dressing containing medical-grade manuka honey, designed to create a moist, biologically active healing environment on the wound surface. While the natural antimicrobial action linked to its high MGO content helps reduce bioburden, the osmotic and enzymatic properties of honey support autolytic debridement. Its tissue-friendly structure protects granulation tissue, contributes to odor control and creates a suitable micro-environment for epithelialization.

What is it?

MANUKAderm is a topical product that delivers medical-grade manuka honey in a soothing, protective skin cream.

What is it made of?

It is made by evenly dispersing medical-grade manuka honey in a semi-occlusive cream-barrier matrix designed to protect and soothe the skin. The formula combines the moisture-retaining (humectant) property of honey with the water-resistant, maceration-reducing structure of the barrier base. In this way, it aims to limit water loss, particularly from the wound edges and periwound skin, ease irritation and help dressings be tolerated more comfortably.

Why use it?

The assessments and comparisons in this section are the manufacturer’s own statements. Use of the product in a patient requires assessment by a physician.

Wound edges and periwound skin are easily irritated by exudate and dressing pressure; when maceration develops, epithelialization is delayed and the wound margin can widen. While its semi-occlusive barrier structure helps protect the periwound skin against moisture loss and irritation, MANUKAderm increases comfort through the moisture-retaining and soothing properties of medical manuka honey and makes continuity of care easier. Protecting the periwound skin makes the dressing work more predictably and reduces interruptions to the healing plan.

Conventional barrier creams provide only mechanical protection; MANUKAderm additionally offers support for moisture balance and soothing thanks to medical manuka honey.

Reducing maceration under the dressing can lower the risk of skin cracking and irritation. Being free of steroids and antiseptics gives it a tolerability advantage in long-term use; it can be safely paired with different wound dressings.

Indications

MANUKAderm is suitable as a supportive product in the care of chronic and acute wounds, to protect the wound edges and periwound skin. It helps maintain periwound skin integrity under dressings, particularly where there is a risk of exudate-related maceration (diabetic foot ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers, pressure ulcers, traumatic and surgical wounds). In cases requiring long-term dressings, it can be chosen as a barrier on skin areas prone to irritation and dryness.

Manufacturer’s warning

If irritation, an unexpected increase in redness or an allergic reaction is suspected, stop use and carry out a clinical assessment.

How to use

  1. 01

    Assess the wound

Check the periwound skin for redness, tenderness, maceration and cracking.

  2. 02

    Cleanse gently

Clean the periwound skin with a suitable solution and pat it dry.

  3. 03

    Apply a thin layer

Spread MANUKAderm in a thin, even layer on the wound edges and periwound skin; do not apply it directly to the wound bed.

  4. 04

    Apply the dressing

Place and secure the chosen wound dressing in accordance with the protocol.

  5. 05

    Repeat at dressing changes

At each dressing change, reassess the periwound skin and reapply if necessary.
