Surgical and traumatic wound
Surgical wounds are incision sites created during an operation or surgical procedure. After surgery, the site is expected to close through the normal wound healing process. However, the surgical wound can become open to colonization by microorganisms, and some patients may develop a surgical site infection.
Traumatic wounds are wounds in which the integrity of the skin and underlying tissues is disrupted as a result of an accident or physical trauma. Open, fresh traumatic wounds may carry a risk of contamination due to contact with the external environment. The presence of damaged or devitalized tissue in the wound, or the wound remaining open for a long time, can increase the risk of infection.

Each of the products below explicitly lists this indication in its manufacturer’s instructions for use. The order follows the treatment journey; where a stage offers more than one option, the exudate level and the clinical picture determine the choice.
Assessment and cleansing
Wound type, depth and bioburden are assessed; the surface is cleansed by irrigation.
