Infected or biofilm-suspected wound
An infected wound is one in which pathogenic microorganisms multiply within the wound, spread to the surrounding tissues, cause tissue damage and trigger a defensive response from the body. The presence of microorganisms in a wound does not by itself mean infection; infection occurs when microorganisms multiply and begin to damage tissue.
Biofilm is an organized microbial community in which bacteria attach to the wound surface and live together within a protective matrix they produce themselves. A biofilm may consist of a single bacterial species or contain more than one type of microorganism.
