Diabetic foot ulcers are wounds that can develop on the feet of people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. About one third of people with diabetes will experience a foot ulcer during their lifetime. Infection develops in about half of diabetic foot ulcers, and about 20% of these infections can result in amputation of part or all of the foot.
