MANUKAtex is an open-weave tulle wound dressing impregnated with medical-grade manuka honey. It creates a moist healing environment without adhering to the wound surface, the natural antimicrobial action of the honey helps reduce bioburden, and it makes dressing changes more comfortable. Used together with absorbent secondary dressings, it supports exudate management and contributes to protecting granulation tissue.

What is it?

MANUKAtex is a soft-textured tulle contact dressing impregnated with medical-grade manuka honey. It provides continuous, gentle honey contact with the wound bed to support healing, and forms a flexible base compatible with the absorbent dressings applied over it.

What is it made of?

A contact dressing made by evenly impregnating medical-grade manuka honey into a thin, soft, open-pored textile carrier. The perforated structure maintains broad contact between the honey and the wound surface while allowing exudate to pass into the absorbent secondary dressing above; the honey layer, which softens at body temperature, conforms to the wound surface, increasing contact comfort and supporting the continuity of the honey’s biological effects.

Thanks to its low pH and osmolality, MANUKAtex supports autolytic debridement, helps soften slough and aims to protect granulation tissue. The biological effect of the honey — even when somewhat diluted by exudate — can be sustained through continuous contact with the surface, creating a stable foundation for the transition to epithelialization.

Conventional chlorhexidine-impregnated paraffin tulle contact dressings mainly provide an antiseptic barrier while aiming to let exudate pass into the secondary absorbent dressing; MANUKAtex, by contrast, also delivers the biological effects of medical manuka honey linked to its low pH and osmolality in continuous contact with the wound bed, and supports autolytic debridement and odor control. Whereas both the development of resistance and cytotoxicity to epidermal cells are debated in the literature for silver-containing contact dressings, no lasting bacterial resistance has been demonstrated for medical-grade manuka honey, and high tissue tolerance and patient comfort have been reported; this makes MANUKAtex an option that can be repeated more safely from a clinical standpoint, particularly in long-term chronic wound treatment.

Indications

MANUKAtex is suitable for use in superficial and medium-depth chronic wounds with low to moderate exudate (diabetic foot ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers, pressure ulcers), traumatic and surgical wounds, donor sites and partial-thickness burns — particularly where gentle, continuous honey contact with the wound bed is desired. In phases where the aim is to protect granulation tissue and support epithelialization, it can be positioned safely together with absorbent secondary dressings placed over it.

How to use

Assess the wound

Infection, exudate, slough and periwound skin.

Cleanse / debride if necessary

Reduce thick necrosis on the surface.

Choose a suitable size

Choose a size that covers the entire wound area and lies flat without wrinkling.

Place and secure

Place MANUKAtex in contact with the wound bed; place an absorbent secondary dressing suited to the exudate level over it and secure appropriately.

Set the change interval

Generally daily or according to clinical need; more often if there is excessive exudate/odor.

Reassess

Monitor odor, slough, granulation and pain; change earlier in case of deterioration or excessive leakage.
